And finally a couple of weeks ago Softbank announced that they will indeed be the chosen carrier in Japan. See my old post from 15th of March 2007.
Apple and SGI
Apple is already the market leader in high-end desktop computers but their server business could use some extra kick. Maybe Apple should consider acquiring SGI in the future? Silicon Graphics is the only server/super computer company that understands the importance of industrial design. Perfect match for Apple. Also SGI with all the recent financial problems might benefit from working together...

iPhone 3G - Softbank
I am not sure if it has been made official that the iPhone will be available as a 3G model too. Well, Europe needs it and Japan too. There were some rumors last year about Softbank and Apple developing a 3G model together for the Japanese market. Would Apple then develop a different 3G model for the European market with some other company? That would not make any sense.
